Instant rooftop solar permits available

Homeowners interested in rooftop solar can get an instant permit through SolarApp+, an automated application for permitting new residential rooftop solar systems, the San Luis Obispo Department of Planning and Building announced. 

SolarAPP+, which is short for Solar Automated Permit Processing, expedites solar projects by returning permits instantly, encouraging residents to invest in generating renewable and sustainable energy.

Developed by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), the U.S. Department of Energy’s primary national laboratory for renewable energy and energy efficiency research and development, SolarAPP+ is an online web portal that automates the plan review and process for issuing permits to qualified businesses or individuals to install code-compliant residential photovoltaic (PV) systems.

Expedited solar permits available

Licensed contractors can apply for expedited permits to install residential rooftop solar panels online through PermitSLO. This is an efficient option to help our community with the installation of rooftop solar panels. 

Through a collaboration between the County of San Luis Obispo and SolarAPP+, this new program allows certain rooftop solar projects to be fast-tracked through the County's permitting process. Interested homeowners should contact their local contractor to find out how to take advantage of this new offering for SLO County residents!
