Shelter for displaced residents opened in Morro Bay

The American Red cross in cooperation with the City of Morro Bay and the County of San Luis Obispo opened a shelter on Friday for residents who have been displaced due to the storms countywide. 

The shelter is located at the Morro Bay Community Center, 1001 Kennedy Way, Morro Bay. It will be open until the morning of Tuesday, January 24. The shelter will accept pets.

American Red Cross provided cleanup kits to residents affected by storms

On Sunday, the American Red Cross handed out a limited supply of emergency clean up kits. The kits include buckets, shovels, disinfectants, brooms, sponges, gloves, masks, and other items that can be used to remove water, mud, or debris. They are also providing comfort kits with personal hygiene items and water and snacks to those who need them.


The kits were distributed on Sunday, January 15th:
  • Oceano: Oceano Depot, 1650 Front St from 10-11 am
  • Los Osos: Vista Court neighborhood from 1-2 pm
  • Templeton: Templeton Fire Station, 206 5th St from 3-4 pm
“We are proud of our partnership with the American Red Cross,” said Anita Konopa, the County Emergency Operations Center Care and Shelter Branch Director, “they are always here for the community in times of need.”
