County launches internet needs assessment survey and speed testing

The County of San Luis Obispo is on a mission to improve internet services across the county with the launch of an online needs assessment survey and internet speed test.

The survey, which is part of the countywide Broadband Strategic Plan, is designed to gather community members' feedback on their internet needs and experiences. It is completely confidential, available in both English and Spanish, and takes between 5-15 minutes to complete.

Funded by the Economic Development Administration (EDA) and managed by the Golden State Finance Authority (GSFA), the Broadband Strategic Plan will analyze the benefits and contributions of broadband to local government and local economies, as well as explore policies, programs, and SMART community applications. The project includes outreach to local governments, businesses, residents, educational institutions, and other stakeholders.

The consultant TeleworX is leading the planning process, and their findings will identify underserved populations, prioritize projects, propose operational solutions, and explore grant funding options for high-speed, reliable, and affordable broadband connectivity. The project is aligned with the State of California's Broadband for All initiative that aims to provide reliable and affordable internet to all Californians.

For more information on this initiative and other regional broadband planning efforts, visit the San Luis Obispo Council of Governments' website. If you have any questions, please contact the consulting team at broadbandinfo@teleworx.com, and a member of the project team will be happy to assist you.
