As a grand juror, you will volunteer to work as an independent body under the guidance of the Superior Court. You'll have the opportunity to investigate local government operations and hold public officials accountable for their actions. This "watchdog" function is essential for ensuring that government officials act in the best interests of the community.
Each year, a new grand jury is empaneled, and you could be a part of it. The application process involves submitting a written application, undergoing eligibility screening, participating in an orientation and interview with members of the San Luis Obispo County Chapter of the California Grand Jurors’ Association, and a second interview with a Superior Court judge if selected as a finalist.
The selection of 19 grand jurors and 11 alternates for the 2023-2024 fiscal year will be determined by a random drawing during the selection and swearing-in ceremony.
As a grand juror, you'll have the opportunity to make a real impact in your community. You could investigate issues that matter to you and your fellow citizens, and help ensure that local government operates efficiently and effectively.
