Lompoc fire chief arrested in Cambria for alleged domestic dispute

Lompoc Fire Chief Alicia Welch has been placed on administrative leave after being arrested on charges of felony domestic violence during an incident in Cambria.

Welch, 55, was booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail at 11:42 p.m. on Sunday. Although sheriff's dispatch data show deputies responded to an allegation of spousal abuse in the 7200 block of Moonstone Drive previous to her arrest, a sheriff's official did not immediately reply to requests for details. According to records, this was the sole domestic violence-related call in Cambria on Saturday.

Welch was placed on paid leave over the weekend in San Luis Obispo County, according to Lompoc City Manager Dean Albro, who did not disclose details.

"The municipal of Lompoc will not provide more remark at this time since this situation is under criminal and administrative investigation," Albro stated.

On Aug. 9, 2021, Lompoc authorities hired Welch, who formerly worked in Golden, Colorado, as the city's first female fire chief, and she was sworn in on Aug. 17.

Although she is set to appear before a judge at 8 a.m. on June 14, no criminal charge has been filed in Superior Court.
