A protective barrier for highway workers will be put up, which means that the northbound/southbound number 1 (left) lane will no longer be closed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
On Tuesday, June 14, Caltrans will switch the traffic so that people going north on Highway 1 will use the lanes that are currently used by people going south. A center median will separate the two directions of traffic. This measure to stop traffic will make it possible to tear down the bridge on Highway 1 northbound.
Near the project area, between Cayucos Drive and Studio Drive, and near the Toro Creek Bridge, which is also being replaced, a bike detour will be set up with signs.
Papich Construction of Arroyo Grande is the company in charge of this $8 million project. It should be done by the spring of 2023, if the weather cooperates.
This project is paid for in part by Senate Bill (SB) 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017, which gives $5 billion a year to the state and local governments for transportation projects. Because SB 1 funds are available, road projects, even ones that are only partially paid for by SB 1, move through their construction phases faster.
